
Medicare Savings Programs and Extra Help Income Limits for 2026
Medicare.gov has released the 2026 income and resource limits for Extra Help and all four of the Medicare Savings Programs. See the charts below to see the new limitations for each. For more information regarding any of the following information, please visit Medicare.gov.
Medicare Savings Programs
Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) Program
Helps pay for: Part A premiums (if a client doesn’t have a premium-free Part A); Part B premiums, deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments (for services and items Medicare covers).
Income and resource limits:
*Income limits slightly higher in Alaska and Hawaii. A client may qualify in other states for these programs even if their income or resources are higher than the federal limits listed. Contact your client’s state to find out.
Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB) Program
Helps pay for: Part B premiums (You must have both Part A and Part B to qualify).
Income and resource limits:
*Income limits slightly higher in Alaska and Hawaii. A client may qualify in other states for these programs even if their income or resources are higher than the federal limits listed. Contact your client’s state to find out.
Qualifying Individual (QI) Program
Helps pay for: Part B premiums (You must have both Part A and Part B to qualify).
Income and resource limits:
*Income limits slightly higher in Alaska and Hawaii. A client may qualify in other states for these programs even if their income or resources are higher than the federal limits listed. Contact your client’s state to find out.
Qualified Disabled & Working Individual (QDWI) Program
Helps pay for: Part A premiums only.

What clients will pay under Extra Help in 2026
- Plan premium: $0
- Plan deductible: $0
- Prescriptions a client fills at one of their plan’s participating pharmacies: up to $5.10 for each generic drug or $12.65 for each brand-name drug.
Once their total drug costs (including certain payments made on their behalf, like through the Extra Help program) reach $2,100, they will pay $0 for each covered drug.
