October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

According to the CDC, every year in the United States more than 250,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer, about 1 out of 100 of those diagnosed with breast cancer are men, and around 42,000 women will die from the disease every year.

In 2019, an estimated 268,600 new cases of invasive breast cancer were diagnosed among women and approximately 2,670 cases in men. Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among US women and is the second leading cause of death among women after lung cancer.

Early detection and being prepared could save your life or the life of someone you love. According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Scheduling regular clinical breast exams, mammograms, and doing monthly breast self-exams could make all the difference.
